A Bit About My Career Interests

My name is Wilbur Loi, and as a UX Designer, I’m very much interested in understanding the problems that people may have in their daily lives, whether it’s a food delivery app they’re using or a struggle to find an item at the grocery store. What I mean by this is, I want to understand, and by extension, help people understand and voice their problems and needs, thus allowing the opportunity to design a solution that we all believe will enhance their lives.

After entering the UX Design field, I found myself really becoming more aware of the experiences I have with my surroundings, from new apps I download to the way I get service at the local DMV. Personally, I think this new outlook on my life has opened my eyes to think much more critically about day to day happenings, and I’m glad this allows me to further develop my own thought process in UX Design, as I am able to better put myself in the shoes of a ‘consumer of experiences’.

My Personal Interests

Food

I haven’t been exposed to many kinds of food growing up, as I grew up eating mostly Chinese food. Because of this, one of my goals/hobbies is to really put myself out there and try more foods despite being a picky eater. Recently, I’ve been able to try much more Japanese cuisine in particular, and I’ve become a big fan of Japanese Chicken Cutlet Curry (it’s good stuff!). A big reason for wanting to try more foods is my next hobby -

Travel

This is still a bucket list kind of thing, but I really want to travel more! I’ve lived in Southern California my whole life, and the furthest I’ve gone from home is Las Vegas. I’ve never even been on a plane! I want to travel to different states, and eventually different countries, trying different types of food, and really just basking in different cultures. Right now, I’d love to visit Hong Kong because I love Hong Kong cafe food, Vietnam because my parents are from there, and Japan because I love the visuals I always see people posting of it. These may be distant travels in the future, but one day!

Gaming

Now this is a hobby I’ve had ever since I was a young kid, and its stuck with me. I particularly loved growing up with the Pokemon game series on the Nintendo DS, and playing Maplestory on my PC. These days, I enjoy playing more chill games such as Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, but I like to play the occasional action RPG game such as the Monster Hunter series. Honestly, gaming is just a really nice way to relax and not think about real-life issues.
